The PEERS® Program for adolescents is a structured, evidence-based social skills intervention designed for teenagers aged 12 to 17 who are on the autism spectrum or have other neurodiverse traits. This program focuses on developing crucial social skills such as starting and maintaining conversations, understanding social cues, and making and keeping friends. Through engaging group sessions, role-playing exercises, and real-world practice, adolescents learn practical strategies to improve their social interactions and build lasting relationships. The program also emphasizes the importance of social etiquette and problem-solving skills in various social contexts, equipping teens with the confidence and tools they need to navigate social situations more effectively and enhance their overall social experience. Lessons include: having two way conversations, entering and exiting conversations, electronic forms of communication, choosing appropriate friends, using humor appropriately, being a good sport, having successful get togethers, managing arguments with friends, and handling teasing, physical bullying and other forms of social rejection.
